Helping the Veterans in Gloucester,MA

After the Veteran’s Day Ceremony, I thought, “Well what do they need and how can I help?” It took me awhile but I called Lucia Amero at the Veterans Center and she told me that our troops are cold and they need our help. (Click the photo to watch the video)

Anita,
You touched my heart. Your generous donation to my office will help our Marines, soldiers, sailors and airmen with their needs. As I mentioned to you, we send packages to our Gloucester and Rockport troops. What I may not have told you is that we send to anyone. Recently, we helped 20 Marines on a team, 14 Marines on another team. Fourteen soldiers in one unit, 5 in another. Six sailors on an aircraft carrier on their way to Afghanistan. We can do this because of the generous people like yourself.
I will look for David’s buoy on the Lobster Trap Tree….

My heartfelt thanks to you.

Lucia

Lobster Trap Christmas Tree Lighting

We are here in Gloucester and you can feel the joy in the air.

Then we made  are way over to Art Haven where the children were painting the buoys to hang on the tree. I found Ed; he was hanging the buoys on the tree.

To my surprise when he introduced me to the crowd of people he presented me with a big green ornament, in honor of David.

Local 777 CT Plumbers & Pipefitters

On September, 19, 2009, The The Local 777 J.A.T,C., dedacated their new training center

The CT Plumbers & Pipefitters.

Sgt David Coullard & Local 777 Veterans Training center!

About the school name

David Coullard registered as a pipefitting apprentice with United Association Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 777 on 12 July 1999. In 2003, a call to active duty with the Marine Corps interrupted David’s apprenticeship. After returning from overseas, David resumed his apprenticeship and graduated in November 2004. On 19 December 2004, Dave passed his S-2 Journeyperson Unlimited Heating and Cooling exam with the State of Connecticut and became a journeyperson pipefitter with Local 777

In January, David volunteered for active duty as a Marine Corp Sniper in Iraq. Wounded on 1 April 2005, David recovered and returned to the field with his men. On 1 August 2005, an ambush in Haditha, Iraq claimed David and his six-man sniper team, all of them KIA.David Coullard registered as a pipefitting apprentice with United Association Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 777 on 12 July 1999. In 2003, a call to active duty with the Marine Corps interrupted David’s apprenticeship. After returning from overseas, David resumed his apprenticeship and graduated in November 2004. David always showed signs of being a leader in anything he undertook. David’s mother Anita attended his graduation in June 2005 and accepted the “Michael I. Rand Memorial Award for Attitude” on his behalf. This award is in honor of another Marine apprenticed in Local 777′s program who succumbed to cancer in 2002. To honor David and inspire others, UA 777 Plumbers and Pipefitters named their training school in Wallingford, the “Sgt. David Coullard Training Center,” not only to honor him, but to inspire others to reach their goals.

On 19 September 2009, UA Local 777’s new training facility in Meriden, CT will be dedicated as the “Sgt. David J. Coullard and Local 777 Veterans Training Center.” With this dedication, David and all our veterans will live on, not only in the hearts of their families, but in the hearts and minds of UA Local 777 and the United Association for generations to come.

Needs – Anita

David was my son. He died while serving his country in Iraq on August 1, 2005.

I had no idea what it is like to be deployed and to live with  what is on your back. When I spoke to David, he would tell me that he was “OK” and didn’t need anything. I would send him things I knew he liked and needed. I would send him letters with pictures from home.  He would call often, but still he would never tell me how they needed supplies.

It wasn’t until my officers went back to Iraq, that I found out. My First Sergeant would inform us, the people back home, what was needed. That would be just every day items. My heart broke when Sergeant said that his men needed pillows! Pillows!

I want to provide the men and women that serve for our country in time of war with things  that are not provided to them.  Wipes, pillows, socks, tee shirts, food, powdered drinks. I could go on for a bit but what I will do is post the wishes of the service persons to you, from them. I can make a difference! We can make the difference!

Give to the Troops

Andie Grant is the Founder & the  President of this Org.

Each package is custom made to the unit that she has info on. I was writing on the flap of the box, Semper Fi. But the girl that had the folder on that unit said ” This is an Air Force unit”. I then wrote that this was from a Marine Mom.
