Mutts Mending Military was founded because of a number…yes you read that right…a simple number. That number is 22, and that represents the number of Veterans that commit suicide EVERY DAY because PTSD.
With the help of a VA counselor, (Thank you KS), and a Vietnam Veteran dog trainer(Thank you LR), and the help of many others(you know who you are), this program was born.
We all could not do something, and we all understand the healing power of a dog and it’s owner…They aren’t called “Man’s Best Friend” for no reason.
MMM has been in existence since April 2013 and is growing every year. The goal of the program is to provide a dog or we can use the handler’s dog if he or she meets the requirements, to the handler with PTSD, and provide classes to them that teach them how to utilize and expand on the dogs innate ability to want to take care of it’s pack leader, and with some additional training and work of the handler that dog can then become either and Emotional Support Animal…or should the handler choose…a PTSD Service Dog…
MMM gives you the ground work and classes to make this happen…in the end ….it is the responsibility of handler to do the work and put in the time in order for their canine to become an ESA or Service dog…WE DO NOT PROVIDE YOU WITH A ESA OR SERVICE DOG…You are provided with the “tools”, the rest is on the handler.
